How to Stay Safe in Peer Learning Groups

How to Stay Safe in Peer Learning Groups

Key Tips to keep you safe

Peer learning is a great way to collaborate, share knowledge, and grow your technical skills in the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) program. However, just like any online or offline group interaction, safety is important. This guide will help you understand the best practices for staying safe while learning with your peers.

1. Keep Your Personal Information Private

✅ Avoid sharing personal details like home addresses, phone numbers, or financial information in group chats or public forums.
✅ Use official 3MTT communication channels (Discord, LMS, or approved WhatsApp groups) instead of personal social media accounts.

2. Use Approved Communication Platforms

📌 Only discuss learning activities on verified 3MTT platforms such as:

  • Darey.io LMS
  • Official Discord channels
  • Community-managed WhatsApp groups (monitored by Peer Leads and Community Managers)

🚫 Avoid moving discussions to unapproved private chats where safety measures may not be in place.

3. Respect Boundaries and Group Guidelines

🤝 Keep interactions professional and positive.
🚫 No harassment, bullying, or discrimination is allowed.
💬 Be mindful of how you communicate—use respectful language at all times.

If you feel uncomfortable with someone’s behavior, report it immediately to your Peer Lead or Community Manager.

4. Report Misconduct and Concerns

If you experience or witness:
⚠️ Harassment or inappropriate behavior
⚠️ Someone pressuring you to share personal details
⚠️ Any activity that seems unsafe or suspicious

📢 Report the issue immediately to your Peer Lead, Community Manager, or 3MTT Support Team.

5. Be Cautious During Physical Meetups

If your peer group organizes an in-person meetup:
✔️ Choose a public location (co-working spaces, community hubs, libraries).
✔️ Inform a friend or family member about the meeting details.
✔️ Avoid late-night or secluded meetings with people you do not know well.

Your safety is more important than any event—never feel pressured to attend a physical meetup if you're uncomfortable.

6. Protect Your Digital Safety

🛡️ Be cautious when clicking on links or downloading files shared in group chats.
🔒 Use strong passwords and enable two-factor authentication (2FA) for your online accounts.
🚫 Do not share your Darey.io login details or access credentials with anyone.

7. Follow 3MTT’s Code of Conduct

Every fellow must adhere to 3MTT’s ethical guidelines, which promote:
✔ Respectful communication
✔ A safe and inclusive learning environment
✔ Accountability and integrity in learning

Failure to follow these rules can result in removal from the program.

Final Thoughts

Peer learning is a great opportunity to grow, but safety comes first! Stay alert, follow the guidelines, and report any concerns. By working together, we can create a safe, inclusive, and productive learning environment for everyone.

Let’s learn, grow, and stay safe together! 🚀
